The FTC Funeral Rule requires a funeral home to give you accurate price information by phone. The FTC guide for funeral homes says they cannot require your name, address, or phone number before they answer.
The basic services fee is the only charge you cannot decline. Embalming, viewings, caskets, and vehicles are all optional and priced separately.
You may buy a casket or urn from a third party, and the funeral home cannot charge a handling fee for using it.
